In Briefs: Tornado Warning Delays Final A&M-Texas Dual as Conference Foes
Posted on February 3, 2012, in College, In-Season Meets, News, with 12 CommentsIn what was to be the celebration of the last in-conference battle in an old (if lopsided) rivalry, the Texas-Texas A&M men’s dual meet in College Station has been delayed by a tornado warning in the area.
The swimmers were cleared from the deck just before 7:00 PM Central Time, and teams have been moved to locker rooms to ensure safety. According to the National Weather Service, a Tornado has been spotted in the area by a trained observer and detected on radars. The weather system is very small and is expected to clear the area by 7:45.
With A&M set to move to the SEC next season, this is the final edition of the series dubbed the “Lone Star Showdown”. Last year’s meet, though it ended up being a sizable, 43-point Texas victory, started out as a nail-biter. A&M won four out of the first five events, before Texas reportedly changed suits at the first diving break. Refocused, the Longhorns would cruise to a victory.
