The Grand Prix series has brought a significant amount of publicity to the sport of swimming, and this stop on the series (Missouri) is not going to be any different!  While a lot of people are focusing on The Phelps vs Lochte story, I want to touch on the Race for First Place.  Yes, Lochte and Phelps will go head to head in 4 events, but the bigger picture includes points!

Chloe Sutton is ranked in first place with 31 points after the SoCal Grand Prix.  The swimming dynamo is reaching extreme heights with her swimming talents at the (relatively) young age of 18.  Chloe enters the Missouri Grand Prix as the point leader, and could potentially leave that way.

Sutton, in my opinion, should be able to pull out a top three finish in the 200, 400, 800, and 1650 free as well as the 400 IM (even though the 400 IM has her seeded at 8th – her seed time is significantly off from where she should be able to finish).

The toughest two events for her are most likely going to be the 200 IM, and the 200 fly.  The 200 IM – she is seeded 48th with a 2:29.89.  If there are swims similar to the SoCal meet, a 2:05 (or lower) will put Sutton in the finals for the event.  Sutton is seeded low as well for the 200 fly and has some significant competition in the top spots of this event.

Overall, I think that Chloe Sutton has a great chance to leave this upcoming meet as the point leader leading into the Austin Grand Prix.

What are your thoughts?

And…don’t forget to tune in later on tonight and tomorrow (and throughout the week) for more swimmer previews for the Missouri Grand Prix.
