College Meet Updates: 1/25/2010
Posted on January 25, 2010, in College, News, with 1 CommentTo say the least, this college dual meets this past weekend were extraordinarily exciting! To go a little further into a few other meets, let me take you down to Butler, Marist, Duke, and Iowa!
- A five team meet was hosted by Butler and included the following teams visiting: Ball State, Youngstown State, Valparaiso, and Eastern Illinois. Valparaiso (who finished with 271 points) was able to upend their rival Butler (130 points) with a fourth place finish (Butler finishing 5th). Ball State was able to take the meet with a total of 883 points while Youngstown State took second with 493, and Eastern Illinois placed third with 375.
- Let’s now travel to Marist where UMBC cleaned up in a 172.5 – 117.5 dual meet victory for the men and a 159 – 139 win for the ladies. The Retrievers return to UMBC for their Senior Day on Saturday when they face off against Delaware and William & Mary.
- In the battle of the blue at Duke (UNC vs Duke), the lady Tar Heels took a victory over the lady Blue Devils 171 – 124 while the men also put a “W” on the board (161.5 – 137.5). In a weekend of highly anticipated match-ups, this dual meet was definitely not a disappointment!
Finally, and this is somewhat unrelated to meets, I’d like us to venture over to the University of Iowa where I would like to congratulate the Hawkeye’s on their first endowed athletic scholarship (for swimming) which was given to them by Terry and Susan Mulligan (both alumni of UI). Again, congratulations, and I look forward to seeing the “awardees” of the scholarship monies for the upcoming season!
As always, stay tuned for more swimming news!
